Rough Assembly Guide

This rough guide is for the Home Allotment Kit 7: Herb Pyramid raised bed starter kit.
Please note, this assembly requires extra work to the other kits we offer and is a general guide only.

Prepare your space Prepare your space

Step One:

Decide where you would like to build your creation and clear a level space. If placing on a lawn you may wish to lay anti-weed fabric to stop weeds coming up through the centre of the bottom layer.

Step Two

Slide together the bottom layer and place.

Step Three

Fill the centre of the bottom layer with soil ensuring it's well compacted and cover with gravel.

Place eight small bedding trays Prepare a platform for the top layer

Step Four

Place 8 small bedding trays (shown here in green) around the inside of the central bottom layer and fill them with soil.

Optional: If you're planning on having herbs in the centre of the very top layer, sink a small flower pot filled with soil in the bottom layer to provide good root access to the herbs above.

Step Five

Use small sheets of polystyrene or wood on top of the gravel in the bottom layer . Ensure they are cut to a suitable shape which will provide a platform for the top layer to sit on.

Note: Leave a hole if you are sinking a plant pot as mentioned in step four.

Slide together the top layer and put in place Fill planters with soil and plant the herbs

Step Six

Slide the top layer together and place. Fill centre of top layer with soil if you plan to plant herbs in the very centre of the top layer.

Step Seven

Fill planters with soil and plant your herbs.

Step Eight

Either plant a herb in the centre of the top layer (as per the optional step above), or perhaps plant a herb in a pot (pictured: bay tree) and place that on the very top to create a third layer.

Finish off with topping up each planter section with gravel.

Geoff’s Top Tip

Put sun-loving herbs on the top and south facing side, and those that prefer shade on the north side.

Looks great planted up with different varieties of strawberries. I've put a cane in the centre to support fleece while it is still cold and the net to protect the fruit later, so it is very easy to cover. Easy to put together and light to move about. Holds good depth of soil/compost. Prompt delivery and good customer service. Only drawback might be that it could be easily damaged, but I've positioned it so that I won't catch it with the wheelbarrow and will be careful when using the trowel or hand fork in it, so hopefully it will last a good few years.
