The Cultivation Station is a system of lightweight, interlocking planters which allows gardeners to design and construct a raised bed according to their available space and budget.
Moulded from expanded foam, the planters have excellent insulation qualities, protecting roots from temperature extremes and helping conserve moisture. They are currently available in two colours – Green and Barley.
The planters are available in two sizes, and can be used to create many different combinations.
Standard Planters each measure maximum 600mm wide by 300mm deep, and 300mm high (24” x 12” x 12”). Each weighs 530 grams (19 ounces) when empty, and holds 25 litres of soil or compost.
The Triangular Corner Planters are maximum 300mm wide by 300mm deep, and are also 300mm high (12” x 12” x 12”). An empty corner planter weighs 285 grams, and holds 12 litres of compost.

If the planters are to be used in a shape which would leave the ends exposed, an End Plate is also available which will protect the interlocking sections and give an attractive finish.
While any of the planters can be used individually, it is as an alternative to traditional methods of raised bed construction that they really come into their own.
A minimum of 8 standard planters is needed to create a fully enclosed octagonal raised bed which measures 1.5m x 1.5m x 0.3m (58” x 58” x 12” approx).
The planters themselves can be used for germination or growth of seedlings prior to planting out in the main raised bed area.
They are ideal for companion planting, encouraging natural pest control. The central area can be used for deeper-rooted vegetables and the perimeter planters for herbs, salads, some soft fruits and flowers.
