| Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) is often perceived as an environmentally unfriendly material; however this couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact the manufacturing process of EPS is much more efficient and friendly than many other materials used today. No CFC's, HFC's, VOC's or Harmful By-Products EPS is one of the lightest and resource-efficient materials in existence.Comprising 98% air and only 2% polystyrene, and this 2% is made from styrene which occurs naturally in the environment and can be found in strawberries, beans, nuts, beer, wine and cinnamon. Did you know EPS is 100% Recyclable? The expanded polystyrene packaging industry is at the forefront of UK plastics recycling. Very few know that clean EPS is 100% recyclable and thousands of tons are recycled across Europe every year being made into new products such as wood substitutes, clothes hangers and CD case. Any scrap EPS produced by our manufacturing plants is recycled on-site to be used again. EPS Manufacturing Process Little energy is required during manufacture and little waste is produced. All that is required to fuse EPS bead is water (which is re-used), steam and pressure. Environmental Benefits: - Lightweight material results in fuel savings
- No CFC’s, HFC’s, VOC's or harmful by-products
- Rejects can be reground into bead and reused
- Superior insulation & protection
- EPS is inert & innocuous - not chemically reactive
If EPS does (wrongly) find its way into a landfill site, it’s inert nature means that it will not decompose into polluting liquids or gases, a problem for many landfill sites. Benefits of EPS for Potty Innovations Products - Unbeatable insulation for roots
- Will not rot or crack in temperature extremes
- Soil remains warmer for longer, so youcan grow for longer
- Non-toxic & durable material
- Lightweight for easy manageability
- Requires no chemical treatment as per some wooden planters
